A central purpose of Lunation is to enable others to benefit from us; this includes our providers as well as our customers. We strive to support artisanship, small businesses, and those who share our thoughts on responsibility and sustainability. We want to form lasting relationships with our collaborators, building mutual trust and ensuring that the outcomes are beneficial for all. Our aim is for every stage of our story to be imbued with these values - from the gemstones and the handcrafted pieces, to the packaging and the parcel boxes – and we will continually review our process, as we grow.
The majority of our gemstones and handcrafted pieces are provided by Mr. Faiz (whose hand is pictured here!) and his team of artisans, designers and silversmiths. This small, trusted team, which includes friends Mr. Faiz has known for years, are based in Jaipur – the gemstone capital of India. Mr. Faiz is sensitive to the vision of Lunation: he cooperates fully with our ideas for design, ensuring that his team select striking gemstones, cut and polished with care, for placing in simple bezel settings.
Mr. Faiz says, "I have had a creative mind since childhood, always making things. When I grew up, I began to design and make jewellery - I think it's God's gift to me. My team are sincere and devoted to their work. Mr. Ibrahim, my silversmith, is a very special craftsman known for his fine skills. He has been with us for the last two years. Your support of Lunation is helping to support me and my team.”
Our pieces are packaged both beautifully and conscientiously. Our cotton drawstring pouches are made by Saurabh Bhardwaj, also based in India.
Saurabh (pictured) says, "Since my childhood, I was anxious about the excessive usage of plastic bags in our daily routine. So, when I grew up and had the means, I decided to find a cheaper, eco-friendly alternative that could help to reduce this waste. My inspiration comes from my mother, who trained me in the art of tailoring. She has always motivated me to deliver only quality, personalised products."
With your chosen jewellery tucked inside, the cotton pouch is then enveloped in handmade paper, which shimmers with flecks of gold and silver leaf. These heritage papers are made at Frogmore Paper Mill, Hertfordshire - the site for the installation of a revolutionary paper machine in 1803; the world's first successful papermaking machine.
The mill is now owned by a Charitable Trust which exists to preserve the mill, its historic equipment, the memories of those who have worked there, and the artisan skills of the papermaker. The Trust seeks to create and sell these unique papers so that the proceeds can support the charity's work. Paper here is still made by machine as well as hand, the latter using heritage moulds and presses.
Our postal boxes are made from recycled materials and are fully recyclable themselves. They are also both designed and manufactured in the United Kingdom, supporting local British industry as well as having a low carbon footprint. The team that provides them, based in East Sussex, pride themselves on being a sustainable, minimal waste company, always looking for new and innovative ways to help save our planet.
Their core values of responsible, eco-conscious living demonstrate that quality doesn't need to be compromised when making ethical packaging choices.
Our boxes do not carry any branding on the outside. This provides security and discretion for your purchases, as well as allowing you to easily reuse your box.
Our labels that hold your paper in place are produced locally in the United Kingdom, by a small, family-run company. Situated in Birmingham's historic Jewellery Quarter, the company consists of a skilled team that have over 30 years of hands-on experience between them. They work closely with numerous local businesses - including prestigious jewellers - for whom they have supplied products over many years.
Our ribbon is sourced as locally as possible: just a mile down the road from Lunation HQ! This special haberdashery in Gorleston, Norfolk, is an Aladdin's Cave of textures and colours. Its reputation for quality fabrics and friendly service is long-established - and the Lunation Tribe always enjoy having a good rummage! We hope you will reuse your ribbon to add a special touch to whatever your heart desires.
