Aquamarine is a soothing stone, said to be ruled by the moon. Taking its name from the Latin for water of the sea, it has long been associated with nautical symbolism, and just like our oceans, is believed to contain lunar energy, It has historic associations with Poseidon and Neptune, with ancient cultures cleansing the stone in the sea under the light of the full moon.
Its fresh, watery blue-green hues are said to calm waves, both figuratively and literally: ancient mariners wore amulets of aquamarine to keep them safe at sea, believing it to be a gift of the mermaids. Its calming energies are said to quieten the mind and settle the soul. It has been used by many civilisations, including the ancient Greeks and Egyptians, as a talisman of protection.
A stone of peace, courage and hope, aquamarine is also the birthstone of March. Its natural energies are said to match the energy of those born under the Pisces Star Sign (from19th February to 20th March), balancing their emotional sensitivity, and that of other Water Signs.
This calming crystal is highlighted in our Moon In Pisces Collection - a very personal collection of unique jewels that reflect the characteristics of Pisces.
